The girl in the Christmas pajamas

She doesn’t go out often.
She mostly stays at home,
Wearing the same pajamas day after day,
Hair unkempt, face downcast, slight body odor.
She’s looking for something.
It must be very difficult to find,
She looks tired all the time.
It’s obvious that something has changed.
She’s probably sick of it all,
All the pretending and ignoring the truth.
She’s done it for a long time.
Holding her tongue,
Letting others decide her life,
Create her thoughts.
I guess that’s what twenty-two years of obedience looks like.
Now it’s time to rest.
